I am doing this on my own from now on! I will keep my own secrets!

My father and Detective O'Connor all shook their head in agreement. My mother looked at her watch and got up from her computer shut it off and grabbed her purse turned the lights off. I heard her tell my father in the hall I will see you in a couple of hours for the events. I love you be careful. Detective O'Connor I will see you there also I hope?”

“I have some things to think about remember but I will be there as soon as I can.” He told her.

“Just remember she needs you also! It will be for the best you know that right?" My mother told him.

“Yes Mrs. Wholeheart I know I just don’t know if I can!” he took my mother’s hand and squeezed it. My mother shook her head as to say she understood what he was saying. I thought of my room and I was there within minutes.

My alarm was going off I slammed my alarm clock on the floor. Why all the lies and secrets, well I am going to do my own investigation to find out about Alaina Rivers! I had made the decision to do it without help from my family or Detective O'Connor. God how I missed him, just saying his name makes me want him near me. My computer dinged so I got up still feeling groggy I opened it and an e-mail from Ryan was there:

Julia,

I wanted to apologized for my actions in front of your guest at the gathering Saturday! But I do not apologize for the kiss. I hope that we can speak at the event today I am looking forward to hanging out with you. As you probably do not know I have already made the change about 6 months ago. But there is something different with yours I can see it in you that you are special. I want to be a support for you but also I have been seeing a man and a woman when I travel and learn my gift of the Water element. The women has asked me to give you a message but only when we are alone. I think she is in trouble or something. But the man is quiet and stays in the shadows, it is creepy but he seems to be looking for something or someone. Anyway I will talk to you later this morning and maybe we can go into town to the Cafe and talk. I really do hope that you decide to go to Kentucky with me. Please just think about it. I have the picture you drew of me when we first started dating. You are really good I think Kentucky has a great Art program also just for a hobby or something.

Ryan

If Ryan has made the change he must know that Detective O'Connor is my eternal mate. But why is he still trying to be with me? Why does he want me to leave with him so bad? Since he has made the change maybe he can be the one person I can trust to help me find out what is going on? “Ryan is trustworthy and strong with his powers he is assigned to be your protector. He knows what he needs to do to keep you safe, please trust me my child you will find your answers that you seek but don’t trust all that come to you feel for the light of good magic or the blackness of dark magic. But do not feel too deep if you touch the dark magic to much it can invade you. Trust what you touch, the light is warm and comforting, and dark magic is cold and chilling you will know which magic you touch with a slight glide of your finger reaching from your mind to theirs. But again my child be careful! Blessed be!” the strange voice was back again. So Ryan is my protector. Then my plan is set in action.

I took a shower dried my hair but something told me to let it flow long today. So I brushed it and straightened my hair. My hair looks lighter for some reason maybe it is the lighting in the bathroom my mom is trying to use the more “energy efficient light bulbs”. Anyway I slid on a pair of khaki shorts and a lace tank top blue with a white tank top under it. I went back to my room to get out my drawing supplies and I sketched out two pictures of the White blonde now known as Alaina Rivers and the mystery man from the school and the picture from the police station that my dad showed my mother. I am hoping that Ryan can tell me if it is also them that he is seeing. One more picture came to mind I started that sketch on canvas. The eyes drew me in and I could not stop drawing of a time that I saw Detective O'Connor set in the shadows and upset because he was worried about me in my living room. In that moment I swear I could see the real Detective O'Connor. This portrait is for me never will it be for anyone else ever!

A knock on my door startled me my dad poked his head around the door and saw my supplies out on the bed. He grinned “I am glad to see you drawing again! It has been so long you are an amazing artist Julia, you should organize an art show for charity and show your work?” My dad said with so much love behind his words.

“I will think about it maybe for charity and the Sheriff’s Office!” I said with a raised eyebrow. He smiled and walked over to see what I was working on I had to hurry and shove the other two portraits into the open desk drawer so that he could not see them.

“I do not think he has ever shown the true O'Connor but you have sure drawn him perfectly. I would be honored to have you set up at the Sheriff’s office for a show the department needs the help so we will do it soon. But right now your mother is waiting to get the next event going.” He said

My father gave me a slight bump with his hip. I placed my supplies and portrait on the bed and wiped my hands off and took my father’s hand and walked down with him to the front down. I took a deep breath and walked outside.

As I walked through the front door to go out with my father he was no longer on my side.  Great Uncle Glenn was there the sun shined in my eyes and then as we stepped out on my porch it became quite clear that it was still my porch just before my time again!

New Information on who was in my Dream!!!

Alaina was the girl that was throwing the debris at my fire shield in my dream. The thing is she was not a spirit like my Great, Great, Great Grandmother was she was as real as I was!

I thought of my mother next I was sent right next to my mother at the town hall she was in her office but detective O’Connor and my father had not made it to the office yet. I look at my mother’s computer screen a picture of “Gypsy Cove” was on the screen. The history below the picture stated: That Amelia Wholeheart sacrificed herself for so that Coven Hurst could not be discovered by the mortal communities on the outside of town. The mayor and the whole town was a part of the sacrifice of my grandmother, they also were all witches and warlocks. Amelia came up with this plan so that the town would be safe for any family that came for refuge to the coven at Gypsy Cove. Gypsy meaning a free spirited person, and Cove meaning a small sheltered bay but in this case a small sheltered community. The mystical part being that our land is protected by a magical barrier to where the mortal community cannot see the truth of our coven. Maybe mom is just checking the facts for today’s events.

My mother started to flip through more information and then she, Alaina Rivers popped up on the screen. Why is my mother researching the same girl as Detective O’Connor and my father? I wonder what the archives say about her change. My mother went to an encrypted file which after a few clicks and a password which of course was “My Big Bear” my mother was at her page then I heard noises two men’s voices coming up the hall. “Come on, come on pull up the file mom” I thought. I knew it was O’Connor and my father they were coming quite quick. Then I heard in my head “Think of a shield it will guard your presence from him he will not hear or feel you here.” it was that unknown voice again from before in my dream. I did as she told me, and they were in front of me he was standing right there I whispered “I miss you already!” and as I said it I lightly touch his face and ran my fingers down his cheek no response not even a chill. He had no clue I was there this time. “You need to protect your presence, he will be the only one to really know you are there but others can still sense a great one around. Be Careful!” she said and then she was gone.

“Jacqueline have you had anything happen while you have been here alone?” Detective O’Connor asked my mother

“No! Why what happened at the station?” She asked looking at them both concerned.

“O’Connor thought Julia might have been there or someone following us but I did not feel a change in the air or see anything and he threw out his energy and I could see the ripple where someone stood! Did you check on her before you left?” My father asked.

“Yes! She is your child 100% you know that right! She was at the door this morning when we were talking about leaving. I saw her in her doorway. So I knew she would try to follow so I made a potion and placed it in her juice for her to sleep and whispered an incantation it also is to keep her from traveling in her dreams too. When you left last night O’Connor it hurt her soul! I have never seen my daughter that devastated over anything. It hurt me to know it was partly our fault you left!” My mother told him.

“Why are they at fault for him leaving? I guess moms spell/potion thing did not work like she wanted it too.” I thought to myself.

“Anyway have you found anything out yet from the archives on Alaina Rivers?” my father asked.

“No I just got the file opened when you came in. Tell me what you found out while I pull up the rest of the file.” my mother told him.

“Well Alaina got a message from someone calling themselves her boyfriend. But as far as her parents knew she was not seeing anyone. Also a Mr. O’Malley came forward as her eternal mate from Cleveland, Ohio and she had been to his PI agency with information for him to find out about what looks like to be a black magic coven in the southwest part of Ohio. O’Malley said that she came in with an officer from our office but I did not recognize the photograph of the guy that she gave O’Malley. Have you ever seen him?” My dad asked and showed my mother a picture of a guy that I know I seen at Coven Hurst University in the parking lot when I pulled out of the parking lot. But he could have just looked like him; the guy looked like any regular person. But he had followed me with his eyes as I pulled out of the parking lot. Kind of creeped me out! My mother shook her head she did not recognize him.

“Listen to this Alaina’s change was activated early also after touring the University also! Her change took place within the week leading up to her change. But her eternal mate was nowhere close! Also, her powers came to her every other night until the Full Moon Ceremony. So instead of a year and a day of training everything was thrown at her in a week. Her mother was scared of the change and was not much of a support for her. Alaina was lost and on her own. Maybe she thought running from her problems and responsibilities with the coven was best since there had never been another like her with all four elemental powers and she had no support to show her the ropes and that was her answer to run. If this is Julia’s path we must stand by her and support her and teach her. She must not follow Alaina’s path.” Her mother stated.

Day of Secrets!

God that was the longest night of my life! Julia said to herself. Julia had a restless night, up every hour on the hour. Julia looked at her alarm clock to see that it was only four o’clock am.

“Really” she said aloud and walked over to her bedroom door to head to the bathroom when she heard voices.

“Jacqueline have you checked on Julia to make sure she was asleep? We do not want her to wake up and we are gone no explanation or note saying where we went.” Dale told his wife.

“I will check on her after I start the coffee and change. I will meet you and Detective O’Connor at the town hall around six o’clock. Let me know what you found out in your hunt at the station.” Jacqueline told her husband.

“I hope we can find something about why Julia’s change is happening so fast.” her father said. Julia sunk back from the door. They are going without me to investigate information about the change and they are not going to involve me. Why is this a secret? I do not understand the secrets! Julia thought to herself.

Julia tip toed over and slowly climbed into her bed to pretend that she was asleep she decided that she was going to follow her mother and hide in the adjoining office and listen to what they have found out. The events are not supposed to begin until ten o’clock in the morning I should be able to get back before mom. About a half hour later her mom snuck up into Julia’s room.

“Julia, Julia wake up!” her mother said. Julia pretended she was asleep and stretched and rubbed her eyes.

“Mom what time is it?” Julia asked.

“Early, honey! I need to run to the office for a little bit I will be back around nine. I have some juice for you to drink I could hear you all night tossing and turning.

“Thanks mom, but I thought you had the day off?” Julia asked

“I do have the day off, but some records came in that I need to review. I will only be a couple of hours. You need to rest drink up!” Jacqueline said handing Julia the juice. Julia grabbed the glass and in two drinks it was gone. Thinking it would make her mother leave sooner so she could sneak out.

“There that should make you sleep well!” Jacqueline said, Julia looked at her mother confused.

“What do you mean it is just juice? How is juice going to make me sleep well?” She asked her mother.

“It was a potion made to help you sleep with herbs of Kava Kava, Passion Flower and Hops, and I masked the flavor with citrus. You should be asleep in no time at all. Julia you are your fathers’ child in many ways and the detective in you shows. Plus, heard you walk to the door when me and your father was talking in the hall. I knew you would try to sneak out and follow me. Let us do this alone  let the one’s that love you take this mission on to find the answers to what is going on with your change and why it is so different. I will see you in a couple of hours, I love you and I am sorry that I had to give you the potion but you cannot follow.” Jacqueline told her daughter with a kiss on her forehead and a whisper of some words Julia could not understand. Jacqueline could see that the potion and incantation was taking effect. Julia went to say something but before she could all she could see was all black. Jacqueline covered her daughter up and walked out of her daughters’ room and left to head to the office.

Julia knew she was in a deep sleep but she was fighting for control of her dream and won over the walls of power that trapped her from traveling. “What was that? It was powerful, I wonder if moms’ words were a spell to bind me to my dreams also!” Julia thought out loud. How could my mother do this to me! Then again I can still follow in my dreams now that I got through that wall.

Julia thought of her father at his office, she knew if she thought of Detective O’Connor he would feel her watching them. Next moment she was above her father and Detective O’Connor looking at a case file box marked “Cold Case # 20698” They opened the box Alaina Lynn Rivers. They pulled out a Book of Shadows that looked exactly like mine, a necklace with the symbols of the elements, candles, and photographs along with the folder with information retrieved from the investigation. On the first page it read:

Alaina Lynn Rivers                 02/25/1976                  Parents Renee & Richard Rivers

Renee and Richard Rivers came into the Madison County Sheriff’s Department on 02/06/1998 to report that their Daughter known as the Covens Ultimate Grand Priestess has been missing since sometime on 02/04/1998. Alaina Lynn Rivers, 19 yrs.’ old, long blonde hair, height 5’4”, about 120 lbs., crystal blue eyes, last seen wearing Levi blue jeans, white tank top with a larger t-shirt blue in color over the tank top with the neck cut so that it hung off one shoulder, medium hoops, then several more piercings going up her left ear mostly studs, and Nike tennis shoes.

Vehicle description: Year: 1984 Make: Nissan Model: Sentra coupe, Color: Blue, Registration: Renee Rivers, License Plate Number: JRP 119.  

Their daughter starter her ritual early that morning before heading to her classes at the local college. Renee Rivers came home from work to find her daughter never returned home from school; Renee sent her a telepathic message asking if she was going to be home for dinner. The message met a barrier that she could not penetrate through it. Renee thought she was having a relationship with someone but Alaina never brought anyone around for her to know for sure. Renee and Richard said Alaina changed after her Graduation/Full Moon Ceremony. Alaina’s change took only a week on her ceremony her element gift was all four element the first of our kind. Alaina never had a boyfriend through High School and as far as they are aware she was a virgin. They think that is what contributed to her being the Ultimate Grand Priestess. Alaina became withdrawn from her studies and friends she was not dealing with the changes well.

The investigation starts with a trip to Coven Hurst University, We spoke to Marcus Johnson Dean of Admissions and his secretary Mrs. Smith who both said she had attended half her classes that day when an emergency call came from her boyfriend that she needed to meet him at his house his mother was in an accident and he needed her at the hospital. Mrs. Smith took the message immediately to her. That is not Mrs. Smith’s normal duties to take messages to students but for Alaina she is our Ultimate Grand Priestess so for her they made special arrangements. Due to her specialties if the community needed to get a hold of her for healing then she could get to them faster through Mrs. Smith taking the messages. But the Dean did not think that her boyfriend was a warlock or her eternal mate. Mrs. Smith stated that when she gave the message to Alaina she seemed afraid of something. Mrs. Smith said she asked Alaina if she was alright Alaina just shrugged and said “We will have to see!” gave a small smile and thanked her and left. That was the last time that anyone has seen or heard from her.

Then a week after her missing a man arrived in town by the name of Brian O’Malley, 21 yrs.’ of age, 6’2”, 195 lbs, Black shirt, Jeans, Work boots. Driving a 1998 Black Ford Explorer, 4 doors, registered to: Brian O’Malley. He showed up at the victim’s house and stated to Renee and Richard Rivers “Hello, Mr. & Mrs. Rivers I am here to claim Alaina as my Eternal Mate.” Mr. Rivers explained to him the situation and sent him to us when after he stated “I felt her a few days ago when she came into my Private Detective Office in Cleveland, Ohio”! When Mr. O’Malley came into the Sheriff's office he told Detective Rodriguez that he had seen Alaina in his Private Detective Office a few days ago with a police Officer from our Sheriff’s Office. The gentleman was about 6’3”, 195 lbs., Dark features and blue eyes but he believed them to be contacts not his real color. When I asked her who he was she stated “My eternal mate!” I knew that not to be true because as soon as she came in the door I knew she was mine not his I think she also knew he had lied to her. But I could tell she was questioning it also. She told me they were headed back to Coven Hurst, Ohio. Which she obviously never returned too.” He Continued “In her packet that she asked me to look at for her was an additional packet on the same gentleman that escorted her into my office. I believe then she was trying to tell me that she was in danger. That is when I started to come here to your town to get her. But I am too late!”

Mr. O’Malley is investigating and is also keeping us informed with information that he has found in his investigation. Then after about a year Mr. O’Malley has also gone missing please look at Case File #2271999 for reference.

My father looked at Detective O'Connor and showed him a photo of Alaina Rivers I moved in closer to get a look at the photo and Gasped and before I could shut my mouth Detective O'Connor spun around and throw out his energy and man did it hit me hard. Then next thing I knew I was back in my room with tears running down my face. 

Practice makes perfect, Right? Well at least if you ever get to practice!

I decided to go down stairs and practice some more. Mom took me to the barn she went over the candles for each element Obviously Red for Fire, Green for Earth, Blue for Water, and Yellow for Air, as each was lite you could smell each element. “Place each on the four corners when lit they will represent the North, East, South, and West goddesses. They need to burn when you are with elemental powers.” Jacqueline told her daughter.

Jacqueline reached into a bag “I bought this for you last year!” she told Julia. Jacqueline handed her a leather bound book with a beautiful tree on the front.  “It is a Celtic Book of Shadows. For you! This is to Journal your spells in. I have a feather pen and ink for writing them down also the more true you stay to the old ways the stronger the spells.” Jacqueline told her daughter. I looked at the binding on the book and rubbed I ran my finger down the spine it was so smooth for such an ancient looking book. Then when she opened the Book of Shadows it was the smell of fresh herbs, and the elements all together in one book. This has been in many elders’ hands I can feel that it has.

“Mom it is beautiful! Thank you so much.” Julia said to her mother with such joy in her eyes and gratitude in her body language her mother was very happy to see her daughter smile and be happy. But Jacqueline still had a sadness she could see that her daughter was trying to hide.

“Julia are you upset about something?” Jacqueline asked her daughter

“I just do not think I am enough for Detective O'Connor, or maybe I am not worthy to be his

eternal mate!” she said with sadness.

“Julia! Where would you get that idea?” Jacqueline said very upset that her daughter was thinking like this 

“You are crazy to think that you were not enough, he needs to be worthy enough to be your eternal mate not  the other way around, Julia. Do not every think you need to be worthy of someone else’s love.” Jacqueline told her daughter “An eternal mate is who you are born for! Detective O'Connor was born two centuries ago and when you were born he stopped aging, so that when you met you would be around the same human age. See you were made for him and him for you, which are how eternal mates work. You do not need to be perfect or try too hard, or be worthy or enough for him or he for you to each other you are perfect the way you are. Do you understand Julia?”

“I understand that but why did he leave so quickly? Why did he not stay to talk to me?” Julia said dropping her head into her hands with a sob continued in a whisper “Why do I care so much what he thinks, why am I so upset? We just met not even a week ago but I feel so devastated when he leaves! What is going on with me, mom? I have never even had a relationship to know what this is or how to handle these feelings!”

“Julia, exactly you have not experienced a relationship or any other male companion other than Ryan. Maybe you should hang out with Ryan Matthews tomorrow and see what it feels like to be with another male other than Detective O'Connor and those intense feelings that you two have for each other. He will be working on something tomorrow so he really will not be around much to notice you hanging out with Ryan, What do you think? Plus you know it will really get to O'Connor you hanging out with another male!” Jacqueline giggled and bumped her daughter in the shoulder with her own.

Julia giggles and said “Mother I cannot play with someone’s emotions. Ryan truly is in love with me and I do not feel the same about him. It would be unfair to him to use him like that plus he may have left already!”

“Actually I have apologized to him and invited him to come tomorrow?” Jacqueline said. Heat blow through the air Julia was still with fire and her anger ignited the flame and it was blazing high and heat exploding out.

Julia looked at her mother “MOTHER YOU DID WHAT? HOW COULD YOU DO THAT?” Jacqueline was stepping backwards when she could not go any further do to her back against the barn she tried to calm her daughter.

“Julia, calm down honey it is for your own good you need to live and have experience with friends and boyfriends before committing to Detective O'Connor. Please I know all this is new to you but you will get through this and be with him completely when you were truly meant to be together. But Julia please direct your fire element toward the pit that needs fire not me.”

Julia was thinking about what her mother had said she would like to experience life a little more than what she has. Detective O'Connor has experienced friends, career, and relationships. That last one left a bad taste in her mouth. Julia started to calm down lite the fire pit and moved away from her mother.

“Mom I will hang out with Ryan tomorrow but please do not expect me to run off with him to experience life I need to get through each day slowly.” Julia agreed

“That is all I ask honey just have memories that you will never forget before you take on all your responsibilities here at the coven. Because if what you have experience so far with your change you are destined for greatness!” Jacqueline said and reproached her daughter now that her fire element has been contained. Julia looked at her mother with tears in her eyes,

“I just do not want to hurt anyone! But I do want my career and to experience life with my friends! But like I said mom I will think about the rest.”

Julia and Jacqueline sat and talked around the fire for a while, about eleven o’clock Jacqueline yawned.

“Julia asks the goddess to take the fire element back we need to sleep for the events tomorrow.”

Jacqueline said to her daughter as she rubbed Julia’s shoulders.

“Goddess of the East I thank you for your offering of the fire element. I appreciate and respect you and the element of fire. Blessed be.” Julia said aloud.

A wind came down on Julia and swirled around her and cooled her skin she knew at once the fire was gone. As she turned to walk to the house she saw her mother chanting something in audible for her to hear. Then a rush of water came through the grass rushing over my feet to the fire pit then you could see the steam start to rise as it was putting out the fire I had started. My mother was doing this she has the elemental gift of water. 

“Awesome” Julia said. Her and Jacqueline started to laugh and walked back to the house with their arms around each other.

Julia walked into her room and could see a pending message on her Mac screen. Her heart was pounding her palms were sweaty and her stomach was flipping. “Please let it be him, please!” she said walking over to her computer. She moved her mouse to the envelope showing 1 unread message double clicked the message to read it:

What I did not apply to the University of Kentucky! I will have to call on this tomorrow and find out who could have sent the application in. Disappointed and really confused Julia closed her computer and crawled into bed to and covered her head and fell asleep.
